Can alcohol cause Low Blood Pressure?

Studies have shown that consuming high levels of alcohol can raise blood pressure to dangerously high levels. Detailed research has even made such startling revelations that people who decrease their alcohol consumption over a period of time will experience a noticeable decrease in blood pressure in a short amount of time. It can even have significant results for people who were previously very heavy drinker and then went down to moderate drinkers.

Physicians recommend that if a person has high pressure then to avoid drinking or drink only in low quantities. For men younger than 65 this can be quantified as 2 glasses of alcohol per day but not more and only 1 glass for men above that age. For women the number is 1 glass a day regardless of age.

Blood pressure is of course only one of the harmful effects of excessive consumption of alcohol. For one reason it causes excess weight gain and other illnesses as well. Excessive alcohol consumptions can have fatal consequences, in which case, immediate medical attention should be sought.
