What are the effects of Hypertension over the body?

High blood pressure is a true silent assassin that can wreak havoc in your body for a very long period of time before even allowing its symptoms to be revealed. By the time they show themselves, you may end up with a serious disability or something so fatal that you may not even be able to escape it − a heart attack, for instance.

In their normal state, arteries are tough yet yielding, and they allow a smooth flow of blood through them and into all the parts of the body in order to supply them with adequate nourishment and oxygen. In case of hypertension, the increase in blood pressure causes artery walls to harden and thicken, and causes orally consumed fats to enter the bloodstream and block blood flow to various vital organs of the body, such as the heart, the kidneys, the brain etc... This can do massive damage to the body, which can manifest themselves in the form of chest pains, kidney damage, strokes, heart attacks or even heart failures.

In some cases, the arteries may even undergo partial expansion and rupture, resulting in a serious case on internal bleeding which can easily become fatal. This case is known as aneurysm.
