Orthostatic hypotension is a fall in blood pressure which usually occurs when a person is standing up. Lack of physical coordination or loss of consciousness may occur as a result of this. “Multiple system atrophy” with orthostatic hypotension is a complication previously known as the Shy-Drager syndrome. Most individuals suffering from multiple system atrophy with orthostatic hypotension die within a decade after its symptoms initially manifest themselves. Respiratory system failures are usually the most common cause of death in such situations. Multiple system atrophy and orthostatic hypotension can occur independently, although such cases are somewhat rare. This disorder can be categorized into three types:
Patients of this condition, especially males, can suffer from complications such as urinary incontinence, sexual impotence and constipation. Physical weaknesses or vision-related disturbances, difficulties with respiration and swallowing, sleeping disorders and decreased perspiration are also visible in numerous cases. This disease can sometimes take several years to be identified, and can only be treated by keeping its symptoms under strict control. |
